30 Days of Truth - Day 09

Day 09 → Someone you didn’t want to let go, but just drifted.

Ok I' haven't done my 30 days of truth in a long time, but I'm jumping back onto it.

I had many friends that I loved through high school, many I couldn't have imagined my life without. I had responsibilities though, I had to grow up, and they were still partying like all 21 yr olds do. I moved away when I was 19, but we all stayed in touch. I only moved 2 hours away so it was pretty easy. But as the years went on we drifted a part. I had children to think about.
I moved to FL when I was 22. It's where I wanted to be, it was warm, and I could wear shorts in February. That was all it took for me to decide I wanted to be there. I still seen my one great friend Angie. She would come down to visit, and when I went to Ohio to visit family I we always made time to see each other and hang out. Another of my friends came down to visit and I think that was when I realized that years apart changes people. We were nothing alike, we had nothing in common, and it was constant awkward silence when she was there. I've seen her once since then. I have realized over time that when I go home, those that have stayed there haven't changed much. I have! I got away from the small town stuff, grew wings, and grew up. Now don't get me wrong, not all of them are still the same as they were when we were growing, but I've noticed a lot have not changed.
As one changes, and others don't you drift. Is it someone I didn't want to let go, I never thought I'd let go of my friends, but ya just do.

  1. Very true. I have many friends that have drifted off as well. I think it has to do with life stages and places, don't you? I miss some, and rarely think of others!

  2. so true. When Ive went home, its never the same. I totally understand the phrase "You cant go home again!" People grow and change but with that growth, we find new friends and people who are more like who we evolve into:) But it is nice to have someone who knew you when.

  3. I'm not friends with anyone from high school or college. We just drifted apart as our interests changed. I'm totally fine with it though!

  4. My story is very similar to yours. I married young, moved away, had babies. I now live about three hours from where I grew up (after a three year stint in Memphis) and every time I go visit I spend most of that time hoping I don't run into anyone I know. And, I constantly find myself rolling my eyes when I see some of my former "friends" posting on FB, doing the very same things we did back in the day.

    Yep. Not for me.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm your newest follower!

  5. So true. I've had so many friends just drift off. It was never purposedly but we all got older.

Btw I couldn't do chicken either for Thanksgiving. Yikes.

  6. Totally had this realization the other day. My best friend in high school and I drifted apart when she stayed here for college and I went to college in Ohio (Ok, really, that was the icing on the cake, she also decided her boyfriend was more important than her girlfriends and other issues). I've tried several times to revive our friendship, but she's been a giant wench about it. I saw pics on facebook of her the other day and didn't even recognize her (both physically and what she was doing was out of character).

Moved away and moved on. Plus, most of the idiots I went to high school with suck at life now even worse than they did then. ;)

And I just saw you have me on your blog roll-- SO SWEET! Thank you!!!
